Jules Brae

part of a face with a head full of fantasy images

I have a favorite phrase. You might think it’s Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, or maybe even The End. Those are fine for people focused on results. I’m more of a journey person. I like the start of a project, when the possibilities are wide open. That’s why my favorite phrase is what if.

What if is a portal to anything we can imagine.

  • What if dogs could talk?
  • What if people could tell what you were thinking except when you wore a foil lined bowler hat?
  • What if a woman who swore off virtual reality simulations suddenly found herself stranded in one?

That last what if pitched me head first down a rabbit hole of what-ifs. When I came up for air, I had a hero (Tam Noonien), an excuse for putting her into a VR simulation (blue matter), and an entire game world (Arkstead). These are the core elements of the Blue Matter series.

You’ll root for the good guys and sometimes even for the bad guys. You’ll enjoy the quests, which aren’t just about cutting goblins to bits. Yes, some of Tam’s trials will require a sharp blade. Just as many of them, however, will require a sharp tongue or a sharp mind. Some plot twists will appeal to you more than others. I bet you’ll like most of them enough to come back for more. I’m betting seven books on it!

Because I let more of the external world into my stories, I’m calling what I do GameLit instead of LitRPG. You decide where it fits. What matters to me is whether you come away feeling it was worth what it cost you. I don’t mean gold pieces, either. You’ll barter away something more valuable than anything you’d find in an ogre’s treasure trove — your time.

The only bad news for you is that you’ll have to wait 6 months for the next installment. To be alerted when new books are out or when a promotional sale is available, please sign up below.

Reward: If you’ve already read Game Port, you know that Tam can’t pick her character class until she takes the Test of the Eight Virtues, which is meant to find the best match for her by teasing out her core principles. In exchange for signing up, I’ll send you a link to this test so that you can become part of the experience.
